The Great Escape

We got the dreaded call the other day, "Your cattle are out."  The last time we got the call it wasn't ours, but this time it was.
A group of cows and calves found a section of fence where the post had rotted off and they were able to get out and into a neighbors  hay field.  The problem is that the hay field is along the main road and there is no fence between the field and road.
But J hasn't been training his cows for nothing.
He just swooks and they follow.
Two bulls also were out but they were hidden by the tall grass.
It took a little more effort to drive them back in but still pretty uneventful.  J moved them to another field so he won't have to worry until he can get the fence fixed.  It's nice to have calm cattle that are use to rotational grazing.  they are so much easier to work with.

Nice to have easy to work with cattle ! I agree, there is nothing worse than trying to move a bunch of high headed animals when they get in the wrong spot

We don't have cows, our neighbors do.

They've gotten over on our property a lot this past year. Normally, it's not a problem. But, now we have a new hayfield growing. If they get out again, it's going to be a big problem.

Glad you got your cows back in, safe and sound.

LOL! When our neighbors phone number shows up on the caller ID, we all cringe, and jump in the truck! We told them that they are always the bearer of bad news :)and that they should call for reasons other than the cows being out so we wouldn't come to hate their phone number so much. Our cows have horrendous timing, and seem to always get out while we are in church, at a baseball game, or have a cart full of groceries.

Thankfully, we've had a quiet summer so far with no jail breakers, knock on wood...I don't want to jinx it by speaking too soon. LOL!

I'm impressed that they were so calm! I wish I could say that ours would be...but that's wishful thinking. It doesn't happen very often, but this last time was at 4 am...we woke to the sound of our Amish neighbor under our bedroom window (our A/C was running). Luckily it was almost milking time so they cooperated pretty well.
