Good Fences #5

J worked on the water gaps this week.
There's really a fence there, can you see it?
Maybe you can see it a little better after J has untangled the two strands of barb wire.
We had a total of 3 water gaps to work on before J could turn the cattle out onto some new pasture.
This is the deepest one he has to deal with.  But it's been so dry this spring that the water level is down 6-8 inches from where it usually is this time of year.
The cows were watching from the bluff and knew exactly what we were up to.
They came running as soon as J swooked them.
They barely made it out of the creek before their heads went down and they stated eating.   A few of the calves came across with their mom's to start with.
But a bunch stayed behind running all over the place.  J left the gate open so the cows could go back once they got full and remembered about their calves and collect them.   This was the first wave of cows to calve so they are all pretty settled.  J will move other groups as they calve.

Looks like a lot of work, but I'm sure the cows appreciate that fresh new grass. Interesting post.

Isn't it fun to watch the cows when they are out on new pasture for the first time each spring? They're like kids in a candy store!

looks like lots of work went into that fence... i can't believe how deep the water was on J and you saying that it was low... but glad he was able to help the cows pasture on greener grass. i'm sure they loved it. and your dog Emma in the sidebar is adorable. hope all is well. have a great day~

What a fun bunch of happenings going on here. The fence that does it's job out of sight is the best fence around to me!

Oh, that looks like a hard job!

You have to do whatever to protect your stock. I would not want to get into the water tho.

Lots of hard work goes into maintain this I'd venture to say.
The creek is lovely & the cows seems to be enjoying the nice green grass.
