Just Kit Sunday #96

Kit Kat may be tried of Wrangler getting all the glory.
Maybe he wants to try his paw at painting.
Or maybe not.

We Have A Sale

Wrangler has had 2, count 'em 2, sales on Ebay!
Which is a good thing because the buyer that has been waiting on him has backed out.  I have someone else lined up that wants to look at him when the weather clears a bit but until then it's nice that he is earning a little money.  Which is more than I can say for the other 6 horses out there.
This one sold last night and is in the mail.
And this one should already be at it's destination.
The 9 year old little girl that got snowed out 2 weeks ago is scheduled to come tomorrow for her painting with Wrangler session.  I'll try to get some pictures.

A Few Snow Pictures

The absences is not my fault. My internet connection was lost on Sunday.  My internet provider promised a new modem to arrive on Tuesday.  If the modem was not the problem then it would be a call to the phone company and another 3-5 days.  They called last night to see if I had gotten the modem.  No, I had not.  They thought it might have gone to Pennsylvania.  It finally arrived today and yes, that was the problem so no waiting on the phone company and we are back online.  But I missed out on posting my snow pictures.
I think Emma enjoyed the snow.
And Bumble and Bea just took it all in stride, shaking it off when necessary.
The cattle were a little restless waiting on J to arrive with their hay.
The horses turned their noses up at the hay to start with and preferred digging in the snow for what grass they could find.
Since most of our farm lays to the south, we have lots of bare ground now but the snow was pretty when it arrived.

Just Kit Sunday #95

Luckily, we ended up at the lower end of the snow estimates here with just 13 inches.
Kit Kat put on a brave face when I put him outside.
After a short survey of the area,
he decided that the better places to walk were where I had just shoveled.
But better still would be back in the house.

Our New Beef

Yes, that is the noun beef,  not the verb.  No new complaints, well maybe several but I'll save that for another time.
This was one of our best looking steers when we weaned them a couple of months ago.  Shortly after weaning, J noticed this one limping.
His left rear fetlock was swollen and at an odd angle.  Since he was still weight bearing I didn't think it was broken but he certainly wasn't sound enough for the truck ride out west.  I think there might have been a luxation or subluxation at the fetlock.  As it is, his is staying in the barn lot eating until he gets fat.  Then if all goes well we'll have a full freezer later this year.

Good Fences #96

Last week was our annual cattle drive moving the cows from the land we rent across the road back to our farm.
J had already done all the preliminary work so me and E just had to show up.

The cattle pens here aren't the best so J reinforces them with corral panels.
We actually took 1/2 to our farm at the house and the other 1/2 a mile further up the road to another farm.
But first it was down the chute,
through the yard,
then down the long and winding road.
The cows took advantage of the trip to do a little grazing along the way.

E was on had to stop traffic (of which there was none) and turn the cows into our field.
J magically reappeared here to turn them up the hill to a different field.
Now they are safely ensconced behind our 6000 feet of new line fence.
Just a little bit of work to cross the road.

Just Plain Cold

We had about an inch of snow Sunday then it turned cold.
 7 degrees this morning.
Because of the snow and a flat tire, the little girl turning 9 wasn't able to come Sunday and paint with Wrangler.  V was home though, and did a painting with him instead.  She has already framed in and hung in her office.  She really likes the purple bird on the right.  Wrangler has a thing for painting birds.
Since it's been cold I haven't been doing to much outside unless absolutely necessary, so enjoy a picture of the goats.
J just had to start feeding hay around Christmas so the bale lot is still pretty full.  The forecast for this weekend is 5 - 24 inches of snow.  Guess we will have to wait and see which model is correct.

Just Couldn't Help Himself

We moved some cattle Friday and part of them went up the road to our other farm.  After we got them through the new gate J latched it and said, "I don't guess that needs a piece of wire on it."
He stared at it a long time, tested it, said he didn't think that the cows would lick the chain off, and very slowly started to walk away.  I said that it didn't matter to me because I didn't use that gate.  He immediately turned around and added the piece of wire.

In Bloom At the 4R's

Not much going on outside with temperatures in the 30's and pouring down rain.
So it's nice to have something blooming inside.  This is the 3rd time that this orchid has re-bloomed for me.

A Few More Paintings

Wrangler is almost well and I am hoping on his way to a new home soon.  But as we are waiting he might as well do a few more paintings for me.
I gave one to the vet that came here to x-ray is foot and she loved it.  Now she wants one for her niece that trains and shows hunter/jumpers.  They also made nice Christmas presents for my family.
I also have a friend that is bringing her daughter here as a birthday present.  She will get to pick the colors for her own Wrangler painting and will help him paint and possibly ride him too.
He is really finally turning into a pretty nice horse.

Suture Removal

Trying to get a picture of anything other than Emma's nose is about impossible.
She had had a tumor on her upper right eyelid that was rubbing on the eye and causing a lot of irritation.  So I finally managed to take her to the clinic New Year's Eve and remove it.
She also had 3 warts on top of her head that were irritating me, so I removed them too.
And while she was out I trimmed up the hair on her feet, trimmed her nails and combed her tail and feathers which she hates for me to do.
Everything has healed up nicely and I was able to get the sutures out without any problem.  Now her eye is fine and I can pat her head without those yucky bumps.

Bad Horse For Sale Pictures # 27

8 yr. old Palomino Gelding
Gentle, been shoe'd when needed.
Would like to see him go to a good home with plenty of pasture

I guess the pictures confirm that it is a palomino but that is about all they are good for.  Oh, and maybe that it is a talking horse, I see he has his mouth open.  Could be saying, "Wait, don't take my picture!"

Just Kit Sunday #94

Kit Kat finally consented to a photo shoot this week.
"OK, Kit hold it right there."
"But the sun is in my eyes."
"Oh wait, I've got to fix my hair."
"Are you sure this plant is safe?"
 "Awesome!"
"Well done Kit Kat."

Good Fences #94

J had a close call with the trailer the other day when we here bringing our bred heifers back to the house.
I kept telling him he was too close to the post and he kept going back and forth trying to get through until he gave up, unhooked the trailer, repositioned the truck, rehooked the trailer and was able to finally get backed through the very awkward gate hole.  Despite how it looks, the trailer did not touch the post but it would have been difficult to have gotten a piece of paper between the two.
And this is the lot we had to load the heifers out of.
Nothing but mud and ice. but J with his handy, dandy corral panels was able to get the job done.
