Bad Horse For Sale Pictures #4

I just couldn't wait to share this week's entry with you.
,                                                                   This seller, through use of specially darkened stalls, has developed a new species of equine with luminescent eyes.
Apparently, with this new feature comes the need for extra restraint.  Luminescent eyed horses should be tri-tied, not merely cross tied.

A Three Horse Day

V made the statement the other day that if she is home this summer she might like to show a horse again.  But maybe she would like to try western instead of hunter this time.
So, of course I was all over that one.  I got her on Brother while I rode Otoelene.  Even though he hadn't been ridden for 2 weeks he was still his calm steady self.  The only problem was my fault.  I just grabbed Otoelene's bridle and then the other bridle I always use which was actually Hank's and Wrangler's and gave it to V.  It was way too big for Brother and the bit was down at his lips.  V thought it was a little big but didn't say anything.  I didn't notice my mistake until I rode Wrangler next and realized what I had done.
He did fine even with the bridle issue.   V did some cantering and couldn't decide whose canter she liked better, Brother's or Hank's.  That is quite a complement for Brother's canter because Hank's is like sitting is a rocking chair (that goes 10 feet with every rock)
We also took a little spin outside where Brother was cool as a cucumber.  It was hard for V to believe that he is only 2.
Next up it was Wrangler's turn.  Walk, jog, lope both ways, stop, back up, getting better at all of that.  But he still can't pivot worth anything and he is really bad about not moving off my leg when I want him to.
So there is still work to be done.  E needs to get home from Grandma's house and get going on this project.

Just Kit Sunday #34

Kit Kat wanted to have his picture taken with Santa.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.  I know we did.
Back to our regular ranch stuff tomorrow.
Had to share just one present, I love, love, love this bunny slipper ornament.  Thank you V.

I Need More Shoes

I got my second horseshoe order today.
 A beautiful Horseshoe Wreath.
I just threw the ribbon on, but you get the idea.  Just imagine the possibilities, twine, lasso, garland, seasonal ribbons, barb wire...
What should I ask for next?
But I've got to save up some shoes first.  This and the tree about wiped me out.  My farrier had been keeping the shoes after he pulled them until I started asking for him this year to leave them.  Even then I would sometimes forget until he pulled out and I realized, no shoes.  I am going to have to stay on top of it better this coming year.

Just Kit Sunday #33

"Don't mess with my tree."
"I'm keeping my eye on you."
"I am alert to all happenings."
"Wait, who touched that?"
Merry Christmas from Kit Kat.

Look What I Got

My very own horseshoe Christmas tree!
And this one is even better than the one I didn't get at the gift exchange because it's made from my own  horses'  shoes.
That's one of Otoelene's first shoes at the top and a set of Hank's for the base.
I had them leave it natural.  Maybe I'll paint it later but I like the rustic look for now.  Now I just have to hang some ornaments and it's ready for Christmas.

Another Beautiful Sunrise

I looked out of the kitchen window yesterday and saw this...

Grabbed my camera and went to the porch and started snapping pictures.  The 2 lower ones are using the fish-eye effect.  What a beautiful world we live in.

Christmas Star Craft

I try to do a different Christmas ornament craft each year.  It is getting increasingly difficult to balance a nice ornament with the amount of time I am willing to spend on each one.  This year I attempted a yarn star.
After some trial and error I came up with 10 tooth picks in a circle poked through the bottom of a foam meat tray.
Next, more trial and error on how to spin the yarn around the tooth picks.
It makes a big difference to the outcome depending on what spacing you chose.

Once you know what pattern you will do,  soak the yarn in a 50/50 glue/water mixture.
I tied a loop at the top to hang it by later.
Then let the glue dry.  This process can be sped up using a hair drier.   Next, the trick is getting the toothpicks out while keeping the star intact.  The first couple of times wasn't hard, but as the glue built up on the toothpicks it got increasingly difficult to remove them but I was too cheap to replace them each time.
Then I spray painted them and while the paint was wet sprinkled them with glitter.
And there you have it, yarn Christmas Stars.

How Cool Is This?

I found out a lady in our saddle club makes chocolates.  Not only little stuff but beautiful centerpieces too.
Check out this chocolate sleigh.  It's all chocolate and packed with more chocolate and goodies.  I;m so proud of myself for thinking to get 2 of these for people on my list.
Here's one of the smaller things she makes.
I wonder who's going to be the lucky gift recipient.

Bad Hair Day

When I caught Wrangler to ride him yesterday I found him to be quite a mess.
His forelock was matted with cockleburs.
I didn't think there were many in the horse field because the other horses never seem to have this much trouble.
Luckily, Wrangler doesn't seem to mind having his forelock combed out.
Allison B from Adventures With Shyloh described the look once as troll hair.  I thought that was an apt description.
What do you think?
I was trying to think where the trolls were so I could get a picture.  I asked E, "Do you know where a troll is?"  She replied, "What?  Is that a country?"  Where did I go wrong?   Anyway, on my way to the play room to look for trolls, one of my little Christmas trees caught my eye.  Of course, I have an angle troll.  I didn't have to look any further.
