Spay Day

It was time to do a little surgery on the puppies.  I went ahead and took them in on Sunday to work on them so I wouldn't be in the way of regular clinic hours.

They were very reluctant to come inside let alone walk on a tile floor.  There was a lot of dragging and pushing to get them to the treatment area.  One weighted 53 pounds and the other 60.  They are not quite 6 months old yet.
J helped with the restraint, which was minimal because they are so sweet, and the heavy lifting.  I did everything else.
With the first one finished and up she was very interested in trying to get her sister up.
They cane through surgery fine, spent the night at the clinic and are back out with the goats this evening. I know, I'm a bad owner but we will keep a close eye on them for the next few days.  I think they will be happier with the goats than in the kennel.   Still no names yet.  They are hard to tell apart except for their tails, one is straight and the other curly.

Just Kit Sunday #123

When I moved the car last night to get the grill out to cook hamburgers this greeted me...
Yuck, guts and parts and pieces of some poor Kit Kat victim.
Kit came back I guess to make sure he didn't leave an eatable tidbit behind.
He was unapologetic for the mess.

Moving In

Or is it moving out?  Which ever way, E is going to be living in an apartment at college this year.  She liked living with grandma but said she wanted to be closer to her friends and kids her age.  But technically, she may be further from campus.  She is excited to be near a bus stop however.
With a truck load from home and a few more items from grandma's house, E was ready to move in.
 First things first,
 have to vacuum the carpet.
The bed was a piece of cake.  j even said that e was strong for her size.
Then came the biggest struggle of the day, the sofa.  This is the first sofa J and I bought to go in our first house that we bought.  I have never seen a design where you couldn't get a regular sized sofa through the front door.  We tried every combination of positions before we finally took off the closet door and the legs off the sofa.
We then had to go in vertically and spin and maneuver it into the apartment.  Surprisingly, it was no worse for the wear.
That blue thing next to our sofa is something one of her room mates found on the side of the road.  I think it is a sofa made entirely of foam rubber.  E is refusing to even touch it other than to move it.  I'm sure it was much easier to get in than our sofa though.   She is still needing some odds and ends and is hoping her room mates bring some useful items.  But she by far is providing the bulk of the furnishings.

Just Kit Sunday #122

Oh, if we could just get this comfortable.
What a way to spend a Sunday.
Uh oh, looks like I might have woken him up.  Sorry Kit Kat.

Three Random Things

It is amazing how well the puppies have fit right in.  Only one problem, they don't seem to like Kit Kat.  The adult dogs are scared of him but the puppies just run at him barking.
Otherwise, they are doing a wonderful job with the goats.
We had the pleasure of having Mike come help work cattle Friday.  We had to get up the yearlings and vaccinate them before they head out to the feedlot at the end of the month.  Mike cut our work time by at least a third.
And this was greeting us on the outside of the kitchen window when we got home from church today.  It reminded me of my nephew and a pet praying mantis he had when he was little.

A Little R & R

V, E and Mike joined me for a short trip to the beach.
E was back from her 9 week internship studying invasive mussels in Illinois and was ready to head out again the next day.  C joined us Sunday which was a treat.
I have started a new collection.
I am not physically collecting them, just taking pictures.
It takes up less space that way.
But after looking at the pictures some are so cute that now I sort of wish I had picked them up.
Oh well, there are plenty more where these came from.
But this is the most important collection, and I did get to bring them home.

New Project?

On our other farm there is an old chicken coop barely still standing.  I peeked in one day and saw it had an interesting nesting box.  When Mike was here last weekend I asked if he could help J get it out.
Isn't it cool?  J said he was going to haul it to the dump.  NO WAY, am I letting that happen.
I said I could get at least $50 for it but on closer inspection I'm thinking $150.   But it is so unusual that maybe I just need to clean it up myself.  I just have to figure out where to put it.
