We are looking forward to going to the first horse judging contest of the season on Saturday.
V with Jessica Rabbit at the 2007 State 4-H Horse Show.
E on Pep, same show.

Tree

The wind a while back blew these trees down on top of a fence.
This is what J found when he went to cut the trees off the fence. It's amazing the force to drive the post right through the tree.

Management

This is how we manage our goats during kidding season.
After they are born we seperate them into individual pens for 1-4 days to make sure the kids are strong enough and the nannies bond with them.

Then we turn them into a larger room with 2-4 nannies for another 1-3 days.

Finially, we turn them out with the herd. Hopefully, everyone is keeping up with who they are supposed to at this point.

Riding

Everyone decided to go riding this evening except me. I had to go to the Dave Ramsey class (3 weeks down, 10 to go).E on Pep.

J on Thumper with V on Jessica in the background.
Gave away 2 baby goats to a good home today that the nannies were not taking very good care of. We are trying not to have to take care of any bottle goats this year.

Mount Rogers

Bunny wants to share our spring hike to Mt. Rogers.
At the start of the 14 mile hike.
E with her entertainment at our first break, the Chinese finger trap.
Passing the time on the second break with Mr. Sock Puppet.
And who could forget the Groucho glasses at lunch.
Bunny made it to the summit, the highest point in Virginia! E said steam was rising off of uncle M at this point.Veiw from near the top.
V, E and uncle M with the "wild" ponies.
The rhododendrons were in full bloom.

It was spectacular walking for miles through the dense thickets.
Bunny hopes you enjoyed the tour.

Kidding

These twins were born this morning less than 2 minutes apart. The nanny never even layed down.

Hope you are not getting tired of goat pictures because that is about all that is going on here other than the wind. I am seriously contemplating installing a windmill. We might as well try to get some benefit from it.

Cripple Creek

This is another picture by V of Cripple Creek as it runs through our farm.

V has become very interested in photograpy since getting a camara for Christmas. She has even asked to do the 4-H photography project.

E has a couple of name ideas for Squeeker's twin daughters, Pip Squeek II and Squeeklet.

E's next joke;

How do you keep an elephant from going through the eye of a needle?

Answer: Tie a knot in its tail.

Jessica Rabbit was being a pest while we were unloading 49 bags of salt, so I thought I would scare her off by throwing the plastic over her. As you can see this didn't seem to phase her one bit.

Goats Etc.

More pictures by V.

One of the goats born yesterday was weak and in the mud. I brought him into one of the goat pens and put him in a box on a heating pad. The box happened to be from the Girl Scout cookies, so E has named him Thin Mint. I'm not sure he'll make it so he's now moved to the garage to get more intensive care.

Wind Damage: More wind today. Here is what J has been cleaning up since the last wind storm.
E wanted to make sure I got in a picture of Squeeker and her new twins, as yet unnamed.

Current kid count: 49.

GWTW

Overheard by local poll worker Tuesday, "Y'all better watch Gone With The Wind, beacuse if Obama gets elected he'll probably get shot. This will start a civil war so we better all know how to make our own cloths out of our curtians." I can't help but remember as a child watching the Carol Burnett Show spoof of GWTW and laughing harder than I've ever remembered laughing when she came down the stairs wearing that dress with the curtian rod still sticking out.
Had 2 sets of live triplets today. Current kid count 30. The trapper came today to check out the farm so hopefully all of these babies will not end up as coyote food.

More Goats

More goat pictures by V. Her bottle goat Chocolate had these twins today. Because we don't keep the males, she didn't name him but the girl she named Cookie. The current kid count is up to 19.

Hay

J is almost finished feeding out the 2 tractor trailer loads of large square bales we had to buy this year. Thought I better take pictures of it because hopefully we won't have to buy hay out of New York again.

Cookies

10 boxes of thin mints Girl Scout cookies arrived today. My goal is to try to make them last longer than 10 days.

Oreo

Due to the fact that derogatory comments were made about Oreo's behavior I thought it only fair that one of his good points be brought out. He is very photogenic. These pictures were taken by V a couple of days ago.

Once again we have been blasted by wind all day today. Three large sections of flashing have come off the side of the house and the trampoline was moved five feet. If it wasn't nailed down (or in the case of the flashing even if it was) it was blown away.

I started the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace 13 week series at church tonight. Around 25 couples or individuals are taking the class. It should be very good. J didn't go to the first class, he said there is no way he could spend any less than he already is.

Cards

Thanks for the card L. The card says, "It wasn't so much the getting older that worried Maggie, but the appearance of the odd grey hare was cause for concern!" Inside "Hope your birthday celebration is to dye for!"

Are you trying to tell me something here? Of course E is telling me this nearly every day. I think I much prefer M's present of the mega millions lotto ticket. At least I can dream of 150 million dollars until tuesday.

I was also lucky enough to receive E's second in her series of sewn fabric cards.

Goats

New set of twins today. These are just a couple of hours old.

E with her goats Squeeky (the black one) and squeeker.

E's new joke; What happens when you cross a goat and a lion?

Answer; You have to get a new goat.

Little Girl's view of the farm.
