This first picture is the closest one I had this week for my entry into Good Fences. Can't you see those fence posts on top of the hill?
Anyway, the weather turned out nice enough on Monday for J and me to go riding somewhere other than in the barn for once. I decided I wanted to ride through the cattle. Brother and Otoelene did so well that J talked again about using them to check the cows when they start calving the first of April.
It is so nice to have horses that can be ridden anywhere.
It's amazing how the youngest ones (Brother will be 4 next month and Otoelene 5) are turning out to be calmest.

When my Dad was alive and they still had their farm in Alabama (later they moved to Va to be closer to the kids as Dad started going downhill) my Dad walked 60 acres surrounded by fenceline to check on it, almost every day. That way he could also check on the cows (and also he'd take his truck to a feeding spot and throw out hay and make sure they were all there)and make sure the fence was still doing its job. The terrain would have been rough to have used a horse for this job as much of it was on a steep slope, but seeing these wonderful photos makes me think it would have been so nice for him to have done so! Loved this!
ReplyDeleteHow nice that you were able to get out and ride. I can see that fence quite well in the first shot, which is my favorite today. The horses seems to be having a great time.
