When we sold some of our kid does to someone last fall, we asked him if he might want the billy when we were finished with him for the season. He said he had a billy and wasn't interested. Then a couple of weeks ago he contacted me and said if we still had him he would like to go ahead a buy him. Yay! I didn't have to deal with anyone on FB or Craig's list and we didn't have to haul him to a sale.
So yesterday morning, while they were hanging out somewhat close to the house, I went to round them up.It wasn't too difficult. Usually if they see an open gate into a new field they are pretty willing to go there. And once one or two start, the rest don't want to be left out so they follow.
When J got a break in his feeding, he came to catch the billy. Zipper got put on a leash for this part. We put out a little grain, Billy came to eat, J grabbed a back leg, I grabbed a horn and put the halter on, then we each took a horn and led him to the livestock trailer not too far away. Easy peasy.
He hung out in there for a couple of hours until the buyer showed up. I knocked $25 off the price since he was a little thinner than when the buyer had seen him in the fall, plus we were saving on gas since we didn't have to haul him anywhere. Now we just have to wait on kidding to start in about 2 1/2 weeks.
Win win! The only thing I know about billies is that they can stink to high heaven!
ReplyDeleteInteresting comment from Shirley. But I agree about the win-win. The price of gas becomes a bigger factor in things for sure.
ReplyDeleteThat first photo of the goats was a beautiful atmospheric shot. I like the reflection. Well done :)
Three goats + zipper and J - another nice photo
