Fickle Weather

We woke up to the ground covered with snow.
This is about the worst weather you could ask for to kid goats in, wet, cold and windy.
But this new set of twins were ok.
Baby S came for another visit.  V brought the carrier and instructions on how to use it as a backpack instead of a front pack like we had been doing.  It was much easier to pack her around this way and she loved every minute of it.
When we headed out to check the goats again after lunch, the snow was all gone.
This nanny made a poor choice in kidding location and one couldn't get up because the mud was too slick.  I got her into the barn and out of the wind.  (the twins were up and nursing later without any assistance)
This one kidded in the grass, they were not all together like this when I found them though.  Because of the cold wind and being triplets, I worked her to the barn too.  They were all up and nursing and staying in a small pen I made in the barn.
About every 15-30 minutes the weather would look like this again, yet another snow squall.  Just not a good day.  Then to add to J's bad cow problems, he found a fall calf at our other farm, stuck between two trees.  He had to get a neighbor with a chainsaw to come help get it unstuck.  It is getting where we are afraid to find what can go wrong next.   Oh, and I got a notice I have been chosen for jury service.

  1. Last post was titled rough day - this could be rough day #2. We had crazy weather like that here - snow squalls followed by bright sun. Crazy.

Jury duty - I have never had to serve.

Baby S in a backpack - so cute.

  2. I really don't like the weather being so unpredictable when it leaves us guessing all the time. Makes me wonder if the different types of animals going into labor during bad weather, if they ever feel like- Really? Now?!?!
