We had a calf born dead this morning, so 3-T6 was called into service.
Joe picked him because he was the scrawniest. The other sets of twins are all doing well. But this one was probably not getting enough milk. We put a halter on and I rode in the back of the truck holding him while we went up the road to the other farm.Joe’s technique for grafting a calf is to skin the dead one and make a jacket for the graft.
Since he was nursing when we went to get him, he wasn’t hungry and didn’t really care about the cow.
They went to their separate corners. We then put the cow in the chute and tried to get the calf to nurse. He still wouldn’t even try. So we left them and went back to check later.
And his is was we found, yay, he was nursing. If they look good in the morning Joe will most likely turn them back out.
Love a success story!
