J inherited this wheelbarrow from a great aunt several years ago. He used it to haul feed at the barn until the wood holding the wheel split. Then he gave it to me. I've made use of in in the yard for about 5 years. I find I like growing the Wave Petunia in it best.

District Horse Show
We went to the District 4-H Horse Show Saturday. It was a long day. We left home at 7 am and got back at 7:30 pm. We endured a short rain shower in between.
E got 2nd on Pep in western go-as-you-please out of 20. She only counts the 19 that finished the class as one girl started screaming and fell off when her horse started trotting. (she wasn't hurt)

Spot
Our paint horse Spot always gets sunburned around his left eye where the skin is white. This year I thought I would try putting the fly mask on him to see if it helps.I think it has helped so far, but it sure makes him look funny.
According to the Farmer's Almanac, tomorrow will be a good day to make sauerkraut.

Riding Class
V just finished a 2 week beginning jumping class at Tech. It looks like she learned quite a lot. This was her favorite horse, a 16 hand tall mare. The jumps were 12-18 inches.
The instructor said she was a natural and couldn't believe she had never jumped before. Now if she can just do this with her own horse we'll be in business.

E took all of the pictures.

Mt. Vernon
Part of our bus trip included 2 hours for both lunch and tour at Mt. Vernon. Two hours is not nearly enough time for a complete tour so I took to photographing the signs and sites so I could read it when I got home. Of course we had to go through the farm related sites.
V and J with the Red Devon cattle. In retrospect we should have skipped lunch and had more time to tour.

Consumer Alert
J found out today if someone comes to your door and offers you a free bottle of febreze to demonstrate a product, JUST SAY NO!A door to door vacuum salesman came to the house while I was at work and was here for 1 1/2 hours before I got home. J had just come to the house to get something to drink to cool off. It took me another 30 min. to finally get rid of him. J says he'll be tougher next time. (Although where we live hopefully this will be a long time off.)

Sunny Border
This is one of my flower borders. I always think this is the peak season for the flowers, but continue to be amazed as more keep blooming all summer. Although, I don't know why I should be amazed because I planted everything out there. The window frames for the trellis came from an old house that had been torn down.

Trail Ride
We went trail riding and camping this weekend about 6 miles up the road from our house. We had never been on these trails before. The horses acted a little tried after the first ride on Saturday.
V on Jessica and J on Thumper. The trails were this wide most of the way.
E on Pep, one of the rare times she got in front of me. I rode a 26 year old horse someone else brought.
The mountain laurel was blooming. It always reminds me of the laurel chain in high school where the top 10 girls in the senior class made a rope of laurel to hand to the top 10 junior girls. I am not sure what this accomplished other than getting us out of class for a week the traipse through the woods pruning these poor bushes.
Anyway, the horses all acted great and everyone had fun and are ready to go again.
