Everything But The Cat

Today I photographed all the animals except for Kit Kat.  

When I walked to the barn to feed Draper, her and Golden Boy (not his real name yet) were in a perfect spot for a picture.  

We had to get some cattle up and on the way I took this photo.  I thought it looked a little like the Pacific northwest.  

The cattle when they are in this field, always pick the steepest part to go over when we have to get them up.  When I stopped to catch my breath I took this one.  

"That's not an animal" you might say.   

But I beg to differ, Maggie is one of those rocks. 

 

Special Treat

I had some special visitors yesterday for Mother’s Day. 

Virginia and Mike brought Sadie and Allie over in the afternoon and stayed for dinner. Allie is a big fan of Kit Kat. 

But she is still scared of the dogs. Sadie isn’t though. She loves to feed and pet them.  We also watched the baby goats play and run around. 

And they both wanted to give Clyde some treats. 

 But the best part was them doing poop patrol in the barn where Draper is hanging out.  Nothing is too messy for a couple of princesses. 

Spooky

You never know what is running around on the front patio until you put up a bird feeder camera. I haven’t started filling the feeders yet but I did place the camera so I could see if anyone came to the front door.  We have had a variety of visitors so far. 

A opossum 

Socks came by again. 

Molly, who isn’t allowed in the yard, was in the yard. 

And a beautiful fox trotted past. I think the birds camera is better than a trail cam. It has a solar charger so I don’t have to worry with batteries.  Plus, the videos go to the app and I can check them any time along with being able to watch live. It has been a busy month.

Goats and Worms

The wet summer was good for plants but it was also great for worms. Even though we dewormed the goats the first of August we still ended up losing three to worms. 

So Tuesday we got them all up again for another dose. 

Maggie made sure everyone was ok. 

And they all headed into the barn to be caught by Joe one at a time. I would check eyelids for paleness and dewormed anything questionable. 

Instead of turning them back out on the hill in front of the house, we drove them down into the hollow. I sort of thought they would beat us back around. But they have actually stayed there over 24 hours.  For some reason they just don’t roam around as much anymore.

I kept two back to sell. Someone came to the clinic wanting two young goats for the grandkids. I said I had two that were bottle fed but stayed with the heard. So they were tame but know how to be goats. 

 It was a tight fit to get them in the pet carrier but it worked.  So at least we have two sold.  We will be cutting out the bigger ones to sell in a couple of weeks. 

Two Hour Chore

Maggie's coat was getting a little embarrassing looking.  But there is no way to groom her while she is awake.  I brought home a sedative and set out to pretty her up. 

She was a mess to start with.  Half way through I had to give her some additional sedation so I could keep working.  It was a lot of combing and cutting.  I even trimmer her toenails.   

I think there is a distinct improvement.  She got up and when to lay under the barn until the sedation wore off.  

This is what two hours of combing netted.  
 

A Better Day

I got to keep Sadie and Allie overnight this weekend.   The activity that was up first,

Picking flowers.

Sadie ended up with a huge bouquet.

She needed three vases to arrange them all.

Allie, on the other hand, was satisfied with a more manageable number. 

Then it was to the craft room.  Allie glued gems onto a heart.

And Sadie sewed sequin on to hers.

Then it was time to feed the dogs.  Allie was even brave enough to pet Maggie this time.  

Getting ready for church Sunday morning required painting finger and toenails. Sadie chose teal and sparkly pink.

Allie picked red and teal.

Then instead of picking more flowers like Sadie wanted to, I suggested taking pictures on them.  I really like this one of the cone flowers that Sadie took.

Allie got a good one of the gravel.  It sort of looks like an evil smiley face.

Because it was so hot and we don’t have air conditioning, I set up the pool for them on the deck.  This was great fun until nap time for Allie.  Sadie got to watch Unicorn Academy. Virginia and Mike came over for dinner and then took them home.  But they did make me happy by begging to stay another night. 

 

Eggs And Goats

We had a wonderful day yesterday celebrating Mama's 90th birthday!

After lunch, cake and presents, we had an Easter egg hunt for Sadie and Allie.  

Sadie took it very seriously.  She ran like she was competing against 40 other kids and not just her baby sister. 

There was some cooperation.  

And plenty of eggs to go around.  They had a wonderful time being the center of attention to 12 adults.  

Then today, I got to see Allie and Sadie again at the farm.  Sadie was anxious to see more baby goats.  I had a set of twins in the barn that were 2 days old.  One was just a little slow to get going hence being in the barn.  

Then we walked around the field to look for more goats to pet.  Maggie wanted to make sure everything was ok.  

Allie wasn't too interested in petting the goats but she does make a good goat noise.

The King Has Risen

 

Snow Day

There was only an inch of snow but it was enough to close Sadie’s school but Allie’s day care was open.  So I volunteered to watch Sadie for the day. After playing with the kitchen, Barbie’s and dollhouse Sadie wanted to play a game. 

I finally found one with all the pieces that didn’t need batteries. 

It said for ages 7 and up but Virginia had told me Sadie liked playing with legos. And she is 4 now.   She loved the game and didn’t need much help. We played 3 times before we had to break for lunch. (Sadie 2, Mimi 1)

Despite the bad weather she still wanted to go feed the animals with PopPop. 

She is always ready to help carry the buckets. 

Lucy and Ricky were a lot bigger since she had last seen them and decided Joe could go in and pour the feed out. 

Sadie has gotten very brave with Molly.  She said Molly likes to sniff her. 

She petted Molly for a long time. 

Then we hiked back to the house for some Unicorn Academy until it was time to go home. 

 

Seeing Everything

Sadie and Allie came for a visit Saturday.  We had lots of fun.  When I was Allie's nap time, Sadie asked to go outside to walk around so she could, "See everything." 

We started with petting the horses.  

But then Molly and Maggie needed some attention.  

Draper got a gentle pat, 

as did Pep.                                                                                                                                           

Jessica got some attention also.                                                                                                                     

After all of that, Sadie wanted to walk up the hill in front of the house.  It is steep and according to Emily's fitness app, 13 stories high.  But she went the whole way without any help. 

Once we had made it to the top, Sadie looked around and said she could see everything. 

Next, she wanted to walk to the tiny house.  

It is a hunting cabin Joe let a neighbor build.  In return, he shoots all the coyotes he sees.  I am going to have to get a key because Sadie would really like to see the inside and so would I.  

And a trip to see everything isn't complete without seeing the goats. 

Then Sadie wanted to take some pictures herself.  I even consented to pose. 

I thought she took a very nice landscape photo.  

Then she ended with a selfie.
