Petting Zoo

I think we could just about open a petting zoo here.
Allie really likes Lucy.  She kept calling Ricky the big cow and asking to go feed the little calf when we’re were at the barn a couple of days ago.
Yesterday, Sadie wanted to get in the rabbit pen to pet them.  I am bunny sitting for Emily and Keiran until they return from their honeymoon.  Today was spay day for Cinnamon and Thyme.  Another vet at the clinic does that surgery. She said everything went well.  They are back in their pen and doing fine so far.
Sadie wanted to ride but we didn’t have time.  She settled for walking around the field to pet each horse, except Hugo who is in a different field and I still can’t walk up to him to pet.

Lastly, Sadie wanted to sit on the porch and hold Kit.  He is such a tolerant cat that loves attention.  I wasn’t there because I was taking Allie back to the house.  But Joe took Sadie to feed the dogs, they got petted too.

Day 10 and 11, Homeward Bound

Our journey home started at 5 am.  We had to get everything packed back up in 4 pack backs and be ready for breakfast at 5:30.

Several family  members were already on the canoe.  Bunny had his crown on ready for the trip back.
Joe and I were the only ones with cushions, besides Bunny.

There wasn't much to do for the 3 hour trip back to Coca.  No more anticipation of what was going to happen next.  But I started noticing small things, like the penmanship of Sinchi.Wayra.  Joe said if he were writing it, it would probably look like the one on the left.

And there was the bridge to pass under to be in Coca.

Eddie, our guide is on the left, the others are 2 of his brothers. I think there were 10 children all together.

The taxi to the airport was a little suspect.  The big starburst crack in the windshield didn't help much.

Outside the airport was a pretty wall mural of different birds.

This is how I managed my basket, pot and Bunny.  But after getting to Quito I decided to just carry it in my hand instead for trying to keep it tied to me.
Back on the tarmac and up the stairs and in 30 minutes we were in Quito.
We had 12 hours to kill.  It turned out that Emily and Keiran were just an hour away at a hotspring resort with one of Keiran's friends.  I thought it would be nice to just get an Uber and hang out with them for a few hours, but Joe would not leave the airport.  He was afraid something would happen and we would have trouble getting back in time.  I had gotten him this far without incident so I didn't press the issue.  I let him read a book I had picked up at Emily's lodge, Slaughter House 5.  He read the entire book.
It was a nice airport.  We sat outside a cafe that played American music.  We took turns walking around.

Even the airport food was good.  This TexMex bowl was made fresh and was only $7.00.
Our plane left and midnight.  Bunny had his passport ready to come back through customs.
Joe and I managed to stay awake all night.  We arrived in Atlanta around 9 am then headed back out to Greensboro.
And how nice to be met by Ann!!!!  But we were not home yet.
Ann took us to a nice diner for breakfast.  Back to American style, carbs, sugar and fat.

Then maybe so we could right off the trip, Joe stopped at a tractor dealership.  We had ordered a new tractor and he was checking to see when it might be delivered.  We made it to the house around 3 pm after 34 hours of traveling.  Back to the real world and back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Thanksgiving

Our family had a wonderful Thanksgiving get together this year.
Mama cooked the turkey to perfection.
This is how most of the rest of the meal was prepared.
Bunny made is in from his travels.  I think a book is in the works about is scuba diving trip.  Unfortunately, he didn't get to keep the scuba suit.  He spent last weekend in Miami.  Then next month he'll be visiting England.  E said Bunny has led a more exciting life than she has.

Mt Rogers 2009

Well, we did it again.  We hiked the 16 mile round trip to the top of Mt. Rogers yesterday.  Some of us are walking better today than others.  The whole trip including rest stops and lunch took 8 1/2 hours.  M was all smiles at the beginning of the trail with Bunny.  Bunny was wearing his parka C made him for Mt. Everest.
J stopped to wait for some of us by this interesting tree.
The very top of the mountain is tree covered so there is no view from there.  There is however a large open area called the scales that affords wonderful views.
There has been a lot of rain lately and parts of the trail were very wet and muddy.  E went through 3 pairs of socks trying to keep her feet dry.
You can't tell from this picture but M is all smiles again at the finish.  We were all very glad to make it back in one piece.
More pictures to come...

Mt. Everest

E has turned over Bunny to Uncle M for the first leg of his trip to the base camp of Mt. Everest. Bunny and M will be gone for a month. We are looking forward to lots of travel pictures on their return. C made Bunny a special parka he'll wear when it gets cold.

Good luck M, take care of Bunny. We'll be praying for your safe return.

Mount Rogers

Bunny wants to share our spring hike to Mt. Rogers.
At the start of the 14 mile hike.
E with her entertainment at our first break, the Chinese finger trap.
Passing the time on the second break with Mr. Sock Puppet.
And who could forget the Groucho glasses at lunch.
Bunny made it to the summit, the highest point in Virginia! E said steam was rising off of uncle M at this point.Veiw from near the top.
V, E and uncle M with the "wild" ponies.
The rhododendrons were in full bloom.

It was spectacular walking for miles through the dense thickets.
Bunny hopes you enjoyed the tour.
