Happy Thanksgiving

What a beautiful day.  We were blessed to celebrate with my family.  Virginia, Mike, Sadie, Allie and nephew Matt were not able to join us.  But Virginia and Mike will bring the girls over tomorrow to continue the eating festivities.  I think they are doubly blessed to have Mikes family wanting to spend time with them too.

Emily made us a charcuterie board.  She made one last year and wasn’t happy that we didn’t eat it all fast enough.  She warned us that this would be her last attempt  if we didn’t eat enough.  I’m pretty sure we managed to clear enough for her to continue.  It was quite the treat.
 

I am thankful for a wonderful day with the family that could come.

I took this picture of Sadie last week when she was here.  I can imagine that is how most of us looked after such a wonderful meal.

Thankful Sunday #10

I think this will be the last post that I label "Thankful" because I a pretty much thankful for everything.

M, V and Baby S came to visit yesterday and M asked if there was any farm work for him to do.  I didn't have any farm work but I did have some yard work.  

I hadn't really pruned the pear trees in a couple of years so I asked M if he could bring his pole saw and work on them. 

Of the 2 trees the one on the right (behind J) doesn't usually have the best pears, so I had him cut that one back pretty hard.  I decided to wait another year on the other tree since it is almost budding out and I didn't want to damage the buds on the good tree.  J showed up and helped M load up the brush and I didn't have to do anything but visit with V and play with Baby S. 
 

Thankful Sunday #9

I am thankful for the Facebook groups and Youtubers that post Dollar General deals.  I have gotten so many things that I ordinarily never would have tried because I thought they were to expensive.

I love this Dawn Powerwash.  It really works on grease and a whole host of other things not on the label.  At $5 a bottle, I never before would have bought it.

But at 50 cents a bottle, I am cleaning out the store. 

There is a sale, buy the spray bottle get the refill free, and a digital coupon for the same thing.  Both are stacking together making each pair 96 cents plus tax. 
 

Thankful Sunday #8

A simple one today.  I am thankful for this little mortal and pestle set from my sister's old chemistry set. 

It seems like I am always having to give one of the horses medicine of some sort.  Right now it is bute for Little Girl.  This has been a great tool to crush the tablets so I can mix it with pear sauce, then get it in a syringe to squirt in her mouth.  
 

Thankful Sunday #6

I am thankful this week to have made another successful trip around the sun.

And thankful that E came home to share the celebration and that V, M and baby S were close by and we were all able to be together. 

And thankful that the celebration continues today with more family.  I so enjoy this life and look forward to as many trips around the sun that God gives me. 
 

Thankful Sunday #3

I am thankful for our store of hay.

It's holding out ok so far. 

J double fed the cows at all 3 farms yesterday so he didn't have to go out much today to feed. 

He did walk around outside and check on some of them anyway.  He said they looked full.  

The neighbors across the creek were feeding today though. 
 

Thankful Sunday #2

I am thankful for the outdoor wood stove and all the wood J had cut and stacked ready to keep the house warm on these cold winter days.

J has, for the last 23 years, been cutting up down and dead trees off the farm to burn in the wood stove.  

I am thankful we can keep the house at 72 degrees and not have to worry about the cost of electricity or oil. 
 

Thankful Sunday #1

I am starting a new feature, Thankful Sunday.  I will try to come up with something I am thankful for each week.  Hopefully, I can keep up with this one. 

I was thankful for J getting our Christmas tree.  And for E's kayaking gloves (gloves she had cut the tips of the fingers off of allowing for dexterity along with protection) that I used to keep my hands from getting pricked to death when putting on the lights.  

I am thankful for all the friends and family that joined us at the table in front of the tree this Christmas season.

I tried taking a picture of the lights through Holiday Specs that make the lights look like little gingerbread men.  Pretty cute. 

But I am especially thankful that E was here and willing to help take the ornaments off the tree.   Because I got it too early, it was very dry and brittle by Christmas.  Decorations were falling off left and right.  A few broke, but that happens every year.  It is my excuse to be able to buy more.  Thank you E for going above and beyond, or at least down and under. 

Because it was so brittle, I ended up using the loppers to cut it up in pieces to get it back out of the door. 

I'm not sure the goats will even touch this one.
