Ebay Splurge

I know that I do not need more stuff.  But sometimes it is hard to help myself.  Especially when something so rare is available.  I bought about 58 pieces of Spode Herring's Hunt at an auction around 40 years ago.  I have only added about 6 pieces since.  That is until now. 

I had been watching these soup bowls and saucers for several weeks.  I eventually decided that I would be more upset by not getting them than getting them.  So I bought them.  

I didn't realize it from the Ebay pictures, 

but the bowls have two images. 

Plus, there is an image on the saucers.  

I think they look amazing with my collection.  I was very curious as to where the seller had gotten them since I rarely see any of this pattern.  So sent her this picture and asked.  This was her reply...

Yes this is my story these were handed down thru generations in our family who were from Virginia.I do have more of this pattern and people have begged to purchase.I remember going into my great grandmother’s parlor and admiring her pretties!I am going to let go of the coffee service in this pattern!We just moved from a 4 story home in NH full of treasures to a one story home in Vero Beach!I am purging ..These may have made their way from England …




 

Now I will have more to be on the look out for. 

On The Beach

There is always something happening out on the beach. 

Sunrise this morning was beautiful.  

The pelicans are always flying overhead.  I saw dolphins on Saturday. 

I saw a creepy bug. 

There are half a dozen or so turtle nests along my route. 

And something I don’t see much on the beach, starfish. Then on my walk to the pier Saturday a man stopped me to talk. I got way too much of his life history. He talked so long I never made it to the pier. 

Then Sunday I saw he had captured another innocent beach goer.  I used the distraction to get past and made it the pier this time. 

One my way back he had captured another one.  I didn’t see him out there today. 

But I did find this cool guy. 

And not a face but a bunny rabbit. 

I have found lots of fossilized fish poo. 

And I have a large collection of Hag Stones to put on eBay. The ones I found last year sold. That was a surprise. 

And I have yet another new collection, letters from beach rocks. They are pretty difficult to find. Then once found, trying to come up with words is also challenging. Maybe someone on eBay needs some CLARITY  

 

New Collection

I have heard it take 3 to make a collection.  

I have had this variety of Hen and Chicks for years.  It started out as one someone gave to my brother.  Then I got a start of it when we moved here.  

It is growing in lots of places around the yard, but I like it in this pot. 

Recently, I got this one.  It seems subtly different than the previous one.  

It had arrived in this pot with a clearly different variety.  I purchased it at Rural King a couple of weeks ago.  Don't worry, it was on clearance.  

Then a friend at work gave me this variety several years ago.  I love the spider web appearance.  

And look, it is blooming.  This might be the first time I have seen a Hen and Chick bloom.  Pretty cool.  So, I am counting 4 different varieties, definitely a collection.  

 

Calm Before The Storm

With hurricane Florence on the horizon, my sister and I went to help get our mother out of harm's way.  She was sitting in the direct path of the predicted eye landfall.  

 The ocean didn't have a hint of things to come. 

 But with possible 80 foot waves, I'm not sure the house will be here next week.

 The beach was pretty much deserted. C and I went for a short walk and I found some faces to express our thoughts.

 A hurricane is coming, "Oh noooo!"

 Such a sad day.

 Maybe it won't be as bad as they say and everything will be fine.

 Guess we will have to wait and see.

Coupon Saturday #15 and For Fun

I have slacked off some this week.  I mean, really, who needs all this shampoo and soap.  But to curb my addiction I did get a couple of free things. 

 At Family Dollar, the Beneful medleys were $1.75.  There were digital and printable coupons for $2 off.   FD does not give overage so they were mostly free, just tax.

 The cans are small and my dogs are big, so I just donated them to the clinic for the hospitalized dogs.

 Then there was a Bic coupon for $3 off any bic disposable.  Walmart had these for $2.97.  So free again, just tax.

 I have been looking for a rug for the den for a year now.  J has been patient but the other day sort of wanted it done.

 I found this 8x10 rug at Lowes, originally $229, marked down to $159, then again to $139.  And I had a $10 off coupon from where J bought a drill last week and it printed out on the receipt.  I don't think that was too bad of a deal.

Then just for fun....I went to a continuing education meeting yesterday, (not fun) but one of the speakers had this slide.  These are microscopic images of biopsies.  Had to laugh at Cookie Monster.  Looks like I am not the only one that collects faces.

Beach Finds

I don't think it is possible for me to go to the beach without picking something up.  There are so many interesting things.  

 Shark tooth hunting was very good this trip.  I found many just in front of the house. 

 And I found some more fossilized fish poo.  (at least that is what I am calling it.  E doesn't understand why I bother to pick it up)

 And I found lots of faces.

 This was my favorite.  I think it looks like Grandpa from The Simpsons. 

I think there is a definite resemblance there.

 Then there was this treasure.  "What is it?" you might ask.   Well, a man stopped me and asked if I had ever heard of a moon shell.  No I had not but he described a type of snail.   He said this was the last piece of the shell left as it erodes. 

Apparently, you can tell by the flat side.  He said it is calls a sharks eye and it was his favorite shell and he has over 500.   I don't think I will be competing to find more.  They really look too much like the sand.
