Done

Joe and I drove up to Afton Mountain to pick up Emily and Keiran at the end for their 100 mile hike yesterday.
We got there a little bit early and went to meet them on the trail. I think they were glad to be done. Emily said she did not need to do that again.  It just took her a few days longer to come to Joe's conclusion that it was torture.

There was quite a bit of hobbling. Both Emily and Keiran had sore knees. On the way to drive them up to where they left their car we stopped and had lunch at a nice pizza place then crossed the street for some gelato (I opted for a brownie).

Keiran shared this cool face he saw.

They saw surprisingly few real faces.  There was an Indian man from India that ended up at the same shelters several times.

Food didn't seem to be an issue other than they said they carried too  much.  Any future hikes will probably be shorter with lighter packs.
After we dropped them off at their car, I will say that I was glad I thought to bring a can of Febreze.  It made the 5 hour drive back more bearable.

This and That

Nothing major happening, just lots of little regular things. Some are more interesting than others.
We have has some beautiful foggy mornings.  Then it has been in the 30’s for the last two mornings. I don’t think the weather knows that it is still officially summer.
The goats are climbing trees.
For some reason I get posts on Facebook from the Dull Men’s Club.  I thought this one was particularly funny.  Plus, it is a double collectable, both a face and a fence.
I have been working on my rock garden some more. When I turned over a rock to bring it down the hill yesterday I found this black widow spider. I did had on gloves. But I did not let her live.

Then there is Kit Kat just because he is so handsome.

Volunteers

This Spring I purchased several columbines from the clearance table at Lowe’s.
They are purple.  Since purple is Sadie’s favorite color I have been trying to add more purple flowers to the yard.

After I dead headed them some are even blooming now.  They have an upright flower instead of the typical dangling one.  They all did well except one.  It had a sudden death mid summer. But when I was cleaning up the area I noticed a little volunteer in its place.

I have never planted a pansy so I know it came from the dirt of the columbine.
And look, they are purple too!
And with such cute faces.  I may have to start planting them now.

New Face Source

And this wasn’t even my idea.  I came into work and these were taped to the wall.

Pretty cool faces caught with the ultrasound. Just in time for Halloween.
