Spiderwort

I noticed something the other day that had never caught my eye before.  I have three different colors of spiderworts. Yet I have only ever planted one.

I think this is the original color.  It came from my brother years ago.

This one is a little less blue.

You can appreciate the difference a little better when they are next to each other.
Then there was this one that was much lighter, and some are double!
There is definitely some mutating  going on out there.

Bad For Sale Pictures

Found on Facebook Marketplace
This was the only picture.  No chairs and a fly swatter on the table.

Goat Turnout

The goats are pretty much done kidding.  There could be a straggler or two but for the most part they are finished.  It was time to turn them out.
Joe and I took on the task by ourselves yesterday.  The roundup went the smoothest ever.
And everyone went into the barn lot without issue.  I caught all of the kids one at a time and Joe banded the buckling.
Next, we took the nannies in groups of 15, crowded them in the chute and dewormed them.  With all that completed, we turned them out to the rest of the farm.  The nannies took off running.  They were so happy to have something different to eat.  Later they did come back for the kids.   They have been looking a lot fuller the last two evenings.  Another spring chore done.

Couponing #87

There was another clearance event at Dollar General this weekend.  It started Friday.  I was there when the doors opened, but so were several others.  It was a mad rush to the clearance aisle where people started clearing the shelves of all the laundry detergent.  I picked up one but found a couple others on another isle.  I went back to the clearance aisle and a man that was one of the primary culprits of shelf clearing joked that he didn’t get much.  I said his buggy looked pretty full. He said,” yeah, but I had to elbow my way to get it.”  I don’t know what his total was, but I overheard another full buggy one at around $150.
I went back Saturday to incorporate a $5 off $25 and then again Sunday because some new digital coupons were available. In all, the full price total was $217.  I paid $8.03 plus $5.41 in tax.  I was pretty happy with my more moderate haul.

Happy Mother’s Day

I am blessed to have a wonderful mother.
And doubly blessed to be the mother of two wonderful daughters.  And doubly blessed again that I have two precious granddaughters.   Happy Mother’s Day

Sadie Saturday

I got to play with Sadie again Saturday.  I think Allie stayed home and slept.
First things first, we had to go feed the goats.
She is very good at finding the hungry ones to feed.
Then we came in to do a little cooking.  This time it was baked spaghetti to take to Grandma Sandy and Papa Reasor.
She had a little trouble reaching the entire counter to wipe off but she managed.
And wants a day at Mimi's without picking flowers.
I think I finally had enough for her to pick this time.
Next up, crafting.
Some people  may be seeing these for Mother's Day.  (I got the Panda)
There was a brief rainstorm and Sadie spotted a rainbow.  Sadly, no unicorn.
She wanted me to braid her hair.
And since her hair was sooo pretty, she wanted to play dress up.

I think she had another fun day.

Flowers, Horse, Cat, Sky

I just had to share my peonies.
They were blooming so perfectly this morning, some fully open and nothing falling over.
They are absolutely gorgeous.
And you can just imagine the fragrance.
Next up, horse.
We took Draper to the stallion today.  She was in heat and I was informed later that there was a successful date night.  So things are already going better than last fall.
I planted some vinca flowers in Kit Kat’s mulch patch. They have not deterred him from laying there.

Lastly, I just thought the sky was pretty during my evening goat feeding and checking.

Morning Ride

We have had a few rainy days but this morning was nice.  I thought I might get a ride in before it rained again, which it didn't.  I also thought that maybe the ticks wouldn't be so bad with the grass wet.  But then I decided to just ride up the road anyway.
I love how the Dame's rocket is blooming with its variations from purple to white.  I had to look up the name.  I had always called it wild phlox but apparently I have always been wrong.  It seems to be an invasive species from Europe.  But I still love it.  I have some in my flower border but it never spreads enough to suit me.  My grandmother also cultivated it in her yard.  Anyway, my ride continued up the gravel road.  When I was on my way back I spotted this...
Can you see it?
I had to back up to get a better picture.  Google says it is a common water snake.  That makes sense because it was sunning on a culvert above a small creek.  Otoelene wasn't bothered by it other than the fact that I was delaying her return home.  It was a nice 3 1/2 mile ride.

Sadie And Allie Sunday

Virginia messaged me and said Sadie wanted to come over to play.  I said I wasn’t doing anything more important than that.  So Virginia and Mike came right over with the girls.
I had my first peony blooming.  You know what that means,
It immediately got cut.  I love the casual way Sadie reached out to pet Kit Kat.
Joe fed them peanuts and pushed them on the porch swing.
Sadie examined everything in my jewelry cabinet.

And these were the two flower arrangements she came up with.  When we came in from cutting flowers, Virginia said Sadie had a carefully curated bouquet while Allie was just holding one big Iris like a club.  Sadie also told me she picked out Allie’s dress for church but she couldn’t get it on her by herself because Allie was too wild.

Another Form of ID

Since we used a Hereford bull on our black heifers, we got black baldy calves.  The splotchy faces make for easier identification.

I think the white eyebrow one is my favorite but they are all cute.

New ID

Joe has been wanting to get a group of cows and calves over to our rented farm across the road.
It worked out that we could do it today.
Everything started out well.  I got behind them to drive them down the hill and Joe was in front calling them.
They got to the gate and stopped.  They would not go through the gate even though they had been grazing up there for a couple of weeks. It is the field with the ticks.
Anyway, they made a break for it and ran into the woods.  A neighbor that we let hunt happened by and offered some help.  We ended up taking then through a different gate and eventually to the barn.
Joe had asked me to order an ear notcher a while back.  Instead of a tag he decided to notch an ear.  Then if we keep a heifer as a replacement, she will get a tag.

The notching went well.

There was very little protest and next to no blood.  The calves also got a 7 way vaccine and the cows a breed back shot and both cows and calves got some ivermectin which should help with the ticks for a couple of weeks.
Because we are turning them out onto some very ticky pasture.
I took a video of how small, fast and aggressive the Asian Longhorn ticks are. Enjoy…
