Jail Break

When I was fixing supper last night I looked out the window and saw this.
The cattle are not suppose to be around the barn and the horses are not suppose to be with the cattle.
Looks like some curious little ones played with the gate until it opened because I know J, as obsessive as he is about gates, would never have left it opened when he went down to move the cattle into that field earlier in the day.
No harm done and they high tailed it right back to where they belonged.
I believe the horses knew better and they were no problem to catch and return to their rightful place.
J said he wasn't needing this field until sometime in January when he plans on weaning the calves.  We have stockpiled it in the past but there was such and abundance of grass this fall he decided to let the cattle in on it for a couple of days.
Too much grass is not a problem we have never had before but it sure is a nice problem to have.

Ebay Find

Last year I took a chance and bought a painting off of Ebay from China.  It was under $10 so it wasn't much of a risk.   Plus, it was suppose to be and original signed oil painting.
Surprisingly, it showed up and was what it was listed to be.  I did have to buy a frame and stretch it myself but that was no big deal.
My only problem with it is the extra joint that is in the back leg.  Otherwise, a good find from Ebay.

Two Seemingly Random Yet Related Things

I was working in the yard today cutting down the peonies and weeding the flowers but I've put that on here so many times I'm not even interested in it anymore.  But then I was loading the stuff on the truck to haul it off when I noticed the bumper sticker.  I'm not much of a bumper sticker person but V gave us this one and J put it on the truck.
It makes me smile when I see it.
Then, while I was pulling the dead stuff out of the irises, I saw this little guy.
He was so handsome and didn't mind at all posing for his picture.
I think he might have been interested in the bugs that were eating the fallen pears or maybe the pears themselves.  I'm not really sure what all he eats.

Just Kit Sunday #65

Not Kit Kat today but sadness for my brother for the loss of his cat Scooter.
As M told me yesterday, "He was good to me but a fright to everyone else."
He would visit every Christmas and get a physical and his shots so I'm pretty sure that's why he didn't care for me much.  We'll miss you Scooter.

The Problem With Dark Horses

Our horses are out on about 15 acres with a variety of trees.  They like to hang out under the trees in hot weather.
 Can you see me now?
 How about now?
This is their favorite spot.  Can you see me now?

There they are!  Can you see the problem with dark horses?

Good Fences #28

This is a safety plea.
New gates are hung with hinges that are drilled all the way through the post.  We have several of these on new sections of fence that have been built recently.   J and I have said many times how we need to cut these off.  Well, a good friend just lost her horse to a hinge like this.  It ran into the bolt with it's neck and bled to death.
J and I were out there the next day sawing these off,
both top and bottom hinges.
I feel a little better now.  Horses can find any number of ways to hurt themselves, we don't need to make it any easier for them.

First Fall Ride

Yesterday was beautiful and J had some extra time so we went for a little spin on Horse Heaven.
J is wanting to keep Jessica in shape in case he decides to go on another endurance ride this year.
I wanted to take Wrangler because I have never had him out on a trail yet and wanted to add some trail pictures to his For Sale ad.
He did better than I expected although there were some annoying things.  There is absolutely no way he could hope to keep up with Jessica at a trot.  He will go a little faster than in the show ring but not by much.
And he was a little bit like trying to ride a blood hound.  He head was down sniffing the ground for at least the first hour.  But at least he wasn't spooky or nervous.  A good ride on a beautiful day.
