Vaccines

Since Otoelene (who will be 1at the end of April to answer someones question) had not been vaccinated before we got her, I took the opportunity to order vaccine for everyone. 

I'm giving everyone rabies, EWT, rhino, flu, and West Nile.  No one so much as flinched at the shots.

 We also had to move J's dad's walking horse to a dry lot.  She has foundered before and the grass is starting to green up.  This means she'll be across the fence from Otoelene.

To be fair, Lady is standing uphill but I still think Otoelene looks like a little Breyer Horse model.

Ring Work

I took Otoelene up to the ring this morning and left her for a bit.  I thought she might enjoy the little grass up there since there is none in the barn lot.  I worked with her for about an hour in the afternoon, leading, sending away, yielding the hindquarters, sending away at the trot, flexing her neck and picking up her feet.

I must have tired her out, when I went back with J an hour later she was resting comfortably.   

She didn't even mind being brushed all over while laying down.

J took his turn leading.  I think I need to find a smaller rope halter.  I have a web one that fits but the rope seems to be all the rage with the trainers now.

This was a double obstacle,  not only did she have to step over the log, she had to get past the cat.  So far so good, she has been a fast learner and if she has a fit it is usually very minor.

I thought it Was Spring

Friday I took pictures of the Daffodils blooming thinking I would post this weekend about the beginning for spring.

 They are really a sunny spot in the yard this time of year.

 This morning we woke up to 50's and pouring rain.

By noon it was 30 and snowing. So much for an early spring.  At least the first inch of rain didn't come down as snow.

Goat Treeeet

I finally got around to throwing the Christmas tree over the fence.  I have to admit I was waiting for the goats to show up in this field though.

 It is always fun watching how they devour it.

 Sometimes I think that I should collect other trees after Christmas just so the goats could have something different during the winter.

Bumble and Bea weren't too interested in the tree.  They had more important things to do.

Dogs

J tried his hand at some photograph for the blog today since I was at work.

 Looks like he attempted to take some pictures of Bumble and Bea.

 The only problem with them is that every time you look at them they walk over to you and flop down.

This makes it very hard to get a good picture.  They even flop over when Emma shows up.

I, however, was more patient and finally got a decent picture.  Sometimes you just have to wait (and delete the other hundred pics).  By the way, they are still doing a super job guarding the goat herd.

Billy the Goat

E's goat Squeeky was limping a couple of days ago so I went out to check on her.  The billy goat however, decided getting his picture taken was more important.

 He was a very good subject.

 He looks like someone I just can't think who, maybe one of the Beatles?  Or David Cassidy from the Partridge Family.   He seemed to really enjoy his close up.

Now this was getting a little too close.

Arriving Home

Otoelene was no problem to unload and of course Emma, 

 the official greeter, was there doing her job.

 It didn't take long for the other horses to notice something new happening.

 They were all very curious about the new addition.

However,  Otoelene didn't seem to get too worked up over anything.

J is dreaming of all the things he'll teach her to do.
