Just Kit Sunday #62

Since Kit is such a perfect cat we want to make sure nothing happens to him while we are gone.

 So he got locked up and loaded and sent to the clinic for the weekend.

Good Fences #25

It is my contention that the best fence pictures include a horse.  (There's a fence back there, see the posts?)

 Or in the absence of a horse you might could get by substituting a cat. 

E is working hard getting Pep ready for the State 4-H Horse Show this weekend.  We had a little scare Tuesday when Pep looked slightly off at the jog.  But yesterday and this morning she looks ok.  So we leave after lunch for the big show.  Pep will transform from the wild pony look to the sleek show horse in a matter of hours.  Check back Monday for the results.

And Kit, well he needs no transformation.  He is perfect as is.  (Bonus Kit Kat picture since I missed Just Kit Sunday this week)

The Spare

Our fall cows have started calving and one had a set of twins today.   J said she barely raised one last year so he didn't want to risk leaving her with the twins.  So this evening he took one away and brought it to the house.  

 So that means twice a day to the barn with a bottle.

 She nursed the cow some but we still gave her some Colostrix (store bought colostrum) for this first feeding.

Her twin was a bull calf so doesn't look like we would be able to keep her for a heifer so I better not get too attached.  But she is a pretty thing.  Looks like we have a spare in case someone loses a calf.

Final Push

Sorry, but no Kit Kat Sunday today.  With all of the rain Kit hasn't felt very photogenic this week.  

So instead...

The State 4-H Horse Show is 4 days away and E is in her final push to get Pep ready.  We were going to a show Saturday but it was called off due to the weather.  We have had more rain this August and September so far than we ever remember.  And we have more grass than we do some springs.  So instead of a show we will have to make due working out here.  

 E is really getting Pep to stretch her neck down better, at the jog anyway.

 And she is even flexing at the poll like she is suppose to.

 I had seen a good YouTube video on cavaletti work helping to get the horse to engage it's back more so J helped me cut a bunch of 10' poles to practice with.  I have some set at trotting widths and some at cantering.  They always seem to have cantering poles in the trail class at State and Pep sometimes struggles with that.

So far, she has been doing well with everything.  We are looking forward to a possible good year.  With E going to college next year this may be our last State Show :(  But we're not there yet.  Two years ago Pep went lame 2 days before the show and we had to substitute Hank at the last minute.  This year Brother is being kept in reserve.  The count down begins...

Bad Horse For Sale Pictures #22

I have a 8 yr old cutting horse he is for experienced riders only he is high strung.he will spin and slide he has a nice Lil Handel on him but just all around good riding horse for the right person he has been trail road all summer and I have had him on some cattle. He loads and will back off trailer and will go eney where u put his head will go threw rivers and eney Mudd hole u can find is not car shy has been on hard top a lot shoes all the way around no prob......

I'm almost speechless.  I guess there was no experienced rider available when the inexperienced photographer was ready to take pictures.  And English is certainly not my favorite subject but I don't think this writer was even in the building when it was being taught.  Well, I did say "almost" speechless.

Looks Like I Have A Collection

Sometimes when I'm in town I like to stop at the State Surplus store because you never know what you might find there.  I've had some really great finds in the past and lots of dry runs.  

 Today was a good find day.  They had a large bin of scarves for 25 cents each.  A lot of the things they have are stuff people leave behind on airplanes.

 The colors are so vibrant.

 It's hard to see but this one, made in India, has sequence sewn in.

 I had to look up what pashmina was.  Apparently, it is cashmere.

 I had bought these at the surplus store a couple of years ago.  I think I maybe had to pay 50 cents each for these.

 I love the camel detail in the corners.

There is even a camel on the label.  Two was just a pair but six is now defiantly a collection.   Now I just have to figure out what to do with them.
