Too Cold For April

We had a set of twin goats born yesterday late afternoon.  They were up and doing good but the forecast was for rain, snow, wind and 30 degrees.  We opened the barn up for all the goats but this nanny was very flighty and not particularly close to the barn.
So I got dressed up for my bedtime goat check.  If it was January it wouldn't be so bad because you expect it to be cold, but the second week of April?
The night before another nanny had kidded late afternoon and the wind was brutal so I had laid over a barrel in front of them as a wind break.  Well, then next day some older more curious kids found it and thought it was a great place to hide out.  They were also back in it that night.
That gave J the idea of rolling another barrel down to the new kids and put them in it.  I added some towels and they made it though the night in good shape.  Another nanny thought it made a good wind break for her two.  Maybe we should try marketing these as kid hutches.
Some nannies and kids toughed it out outside.
Others piled up in the barn.
Anything to stay warm during the storm.

In Bloom At The 4R's

I don't know how long these will last.  The weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow is not pleasant - 20's with 2 - 3 inches of snow.
Anyway, the tulips are pretty.  I don't recall them being this shape when I first planted them.
Daffodils are always fun to take pictures of.

The red plum tree is in full bloom and has quite a strong fragrance.
I still can't decide whether or not to cut down the red bud. I think it has over grown the location where I planted it.
These grape hyacinths come up everywhere.
And can't forget the wildflowers.

Good Fences #107

With the goats kidding now we are out there checking on them several times a day.
This pair goat off to a slow start and I had to tube feed one but they are doing good now.  But just over the hill.....
I saw this fox running in the field.  The guard dogs were at the other end of the field and couldn't see it.
J was on the other side of the fence checking the cows that are caving now and when he came into sight the fox took off.  Foxy is definitely big enough to carry off a newborn goat but so far none have come up missing.  As long as the goats stay in the sight of the guard dogs, they should be safe.

In One Day

Kidding is now in full swing.  Seven nannies kidded yesterday.
 Triplets,
 twins,
 triplets,
  twins,
twins,
 QUADRUPLETS!!!
and triplets.  Did you get them all counted?  19 from 7 nannies.  I don't think the quad nanny will be able to raise all of hers and one of the triplets is already getting ignored so it looks like we will have some bottle babies again.  I think this year I might just give them away to avoid all the hassle of raising them.

Just Kit Sunday #101

Kit Kat wanted to show everyone our beautiful cherry trees.  Washington, D.C. has nothing on us.
They were really pretty this year and the blooms lasted longer that usual.  We pretty much got about 11 days out of them.

The wind has blown all day today with gusts over 50 mph, so now we have a yard full of pedals.

House Hunters

V thinks she is ready to buy her first house so we went house hunting with her yesterday.  She expanded her radius from work to look at bigger houses at cheaper prices.
First up, the Mid Century Modern.  Well,  from the outside anyway.  3 bed/1 1/2 bath, full basement.
 Teeny,  tiny 1/2 bath.
Nice living room, sun room, kitchen needed updating.  1628 sf and carport.  privet back yard.
Next up, the House on The Hill.  Very steep yard built in the 80's on the market for 6 years.
 Lodge look living room
but cheap finishes throughout.  1600 sf.
And lastly, the Move In Ready.  HOA subdivision 1260 square feet.
 Nice appliances built in 2007.
3 bed/2 bath with 6 foot crawl space and privacy fence. Also, 2 car attached, garage.
What will she do???

Kidding 2016

I think the goats have started a little earlier than they were suppose to.  We lost a set of triplets that looked pretty small yesterday.  So a bit of a bad start.
Today we have a single.
