Regional Science Fair

V won her school science fair in the Plant Science category in January.  The title of her project was "The effects of Goat Manure, Horse Manure, Cow Manure or No Manure on the Growth of Rye Grass."  The choices of manure where based solely on what was at hand.
 Yesterday was the regional competition.
She won her division! She got a trophy and $200.  She won the Exceptional Genius Award (based on a project that displays excellent work on environment).  This includes an invitation with meals and lodging to the GENIUS Olympiad in Oswego, NY.  She won the Certificate of Merit for an Outstanding Science Project from the Dental Association (they sponsored an award for each category). And she won the Outstanding Sustainability Award in honor of a project that displays outstanding work in the theme of environmental sustainability and innovation.  This includes a trip to Houston, TX and a 5 night stay at the Hilton (no travel expenses however for either trip) for the International Sustainable world Energy, Engineering and Environment Project Olympiad.  She is also qualified to go to our state level competition.  I don't think she wants to do this one because it is over spring break and who wants to ride a school bus for 8 hours and do science fair instead of vacation.  I'm not sure she wants to do the other trips either.  It looks like the caliber of projects that have won in the past at that level are a little more advanced that growing grass with manure.
She may present her paper at the  Virginia Junior Academy of Science though.  This was a competition she did last year in Richmond and did well.
We are so proud of you V!
