Great Day With Walker

Ever since we worked the goats last year, Walker has been looking forward to coming and doing it again.
He was very excited when we asked him to come help us on Saturday.  First up, rounding up the goats.
It wasn't too difficult getting them headed to the barn.
Getting them into the barn lot was a little harder.
My barricades worked pretty well.

But I had neglected putting anything in front of the gate, and the baby goats poured out like water.  It took several efforts to finally get everything into the barn.

Walker said this is where the fun starts.  He loves catching the kids.
J worked the door and the bander while Walker and I caught the little ones and brought them to him.  Then we dewormed the nannies and turned everyone back out but this time onto a different field.
Next up was horse back riding.  Hank managed to get into the yard while we were working the goats.  Walker got reacquainted with him and we were ready to go.
We had a very nice 1 1/2 hour ride around the farm.  I think Walker is ready to come back any time.

The Perfect Size

My brother got me a tiny little bottle brush.  I think it was suppose to be in the Christmas stocking so it is either late or early.  But no matter, it is perfect.
You may be wondering why such a tiny brush is so perfect.
Well, the primary use according to M is to clean hummingbird feeders.
And yes, it is the perfect size for that.
But look, it is also perfect for goat bottle nipples.
Now I can do a better job of cleaning out all the gunk that builds up in there from the milk residue.  Who knew there was such a thing.

The Purple Season

It seems like I have a good bit of purple currently in the yard.
The Siberian irises are in full bloom.
You might think the verbena is a little pink,
but I assure you it is purple.
And I just love the old fashion irises.  They are hard to beat for their hardiness and strong stalks.
And I find the flower structure fascinating.

And there are still a few grape hyacinth hanging on.

Wild Kingdom

I was gone for about 30 minutes.  When I came back I saw this in the driveway.
It was very intent on something in the grass.  It pounced, caught something and started to run off.
He stopped long enough to pose for a picture.
I can't tell what he caught but it was very efficient in the hunt.

J and I have been watching reruns of Wild Kingdom.  It is not nearly as interesting as I remember.   Maybe I could film a modern version in my driveway.

Coupon Saturday #55 and A Barrel Full of Goats

First the baby goats for those not interested in the couponing.

Kid  count - 115 maybe
Now for some couponing deals.
I actually couponed in the middle of the week too.
A couple of my Dollar General accounts had $3 off $15 coupons this month.  These can be used any day of the week.  So I went Thursday and spent 25 cents plus tax with all digital coupons.
Then tonight I used a combination of paper and digitals for the $5 off $25 scenario.
I didn't have a coupon for the Suave but I was wanting that and I had overage that needed to go on something.  75 cents well spent (plus that hateful tax).

Tick Invasion

J came in for lunch today after checking the cattle and taking salt to the ones across the creek.  After he ate, sat at the computer then went to the recliner to check Facebook, he saw that he was covered with ticks.
Can you see that spot next to the dime?
It is a nymph stage of the deer tick.  His pants were covered with them.
He went outside to take off his clothes which I carried directly to the washing machine.  I got out the vacuum and started the hunt.  There is no telling how many are in here.  I'm sure we will feel like our skin is crawling for days.  And if we didn't have enough to worry about, deer ticks carry Lyme disease which is now endemic in our area.

I don't know how many times when I tell clients their dog has tested positive for Lyme disease they say, "but I have never found a tick on him."  Really?  You think you would find that through all the dog's fur.  My response is always, "well, people get Lyme disease and we don't have nearly as much hair as your dog."

Just Kit Sunday #167

We had a special visitor Sunday.  M and V brought little S for a visit.
And anyone that has been to our house knows Kit Kat loves feet.  Apparently, size doesn't matter.
