Dude Ranch

V has surprised us by wanting to apply for a summer position as a wrangle out west.  There are several "Dude" ranches that advertise for summer help with their horse trail rides.  One ranch requested a video of the applicant catching/grooming/tacking and riding a horse.
I've got all kinds of video of V riding but none of her doing the other work.
So she came home yesterday to work on getting some video she could edit for her application.
Thumper sure had plenty of grooming that needed to be done.
In one of the job descriptions under dress code they said, "We want to see hats, belts, and boots at all times."  One required your own saddle, saddle bags and bed roll.  V said she couldn't apply for that one because she didn't think she could take all of that on the plane.  I said, "Do you know what state you have to go through to get to Colorado? NEBRASKA!"  I think J wouldn't mind driving you out there to get a chance to see Nebraska again and visit the feedyard.   It seems like it could be an exciting summer job if you like horses, the outdoors and taking care of people.  And this would be a good time in her life to go when she doesn't have other major commitments to worry about.   Sort of hope she gets an offer.

Sunrise

I'm on the up swing from being sick.  Unfortunately, I have to work an extra day this week.  Means I'm missing out on some nice weather.
Check out the sunrise this morning.

The Carcass

The goats are about finished with the tree.
There are still a few needles left.  I'm sure they with pick at it some more whenever they pass by again.
They have even striped some of the bark off.  It was a nice treat while it lasted.

Sick, Sick, Sick

That's me that's sick not the horse.  (very bad cold)
After laying on the couch all day I thought maybe working with Otoelene would help me feel better.
You know I'm sick when that didn't even help.
Still, I did get her up an combed all of that trash out of her tail.  I couldn't leave her standing around looking like that now could I?

Merry Christmas Goats

The goats had their yearly Christmas present today.
"Who's that?  Is it Santa?"
"Looks like he's got a big present for us!"
Quick, out of the way Santa so the girls can see what you brought them.
"num, num, num, this is good stuff"
"There's still a little more room, come on."
Guess we'll see what's left tomorrow.

Cattle Stuff

The weather wasn't too bad and we had E home, so J decided it was a good day to work the cattle.
First, it was getting them into the lot.  No problems there.
E was ready with the record keeping.
Brother was interested in the proceedings and seemed disappointed to not be involved.
Emma, as usual, interjected herself into the middle of everything.  She's always trying to make friends.
J sorted out the ones he wanted to cull, and ones to move to a different farm, then used a pour on dewormer to treat for lice.
Then out the gate to get counted,
and rotated to a new field.
Then it was up the road to the other farm to repeat the process.   He sorted out the first calf heifers to bring back to the house to have a closer eye kept on them.
Then I had to pregnancy check a couple of the culls.
More pour on and we're done with that chore.

Frosty Morning

View from my kitchen this morning, beautiful with the sun hitting the top of the mountain.  That's actually Horse Heaven, where we do most of our trail riding.
