There’s A Seinfeld Episode About That

I found this very unique rug on and on line auction last fall.  I loved it.  It was a little dusty but I did not notice any odor.
I thought about using it as  wall hanging, but decided on putting it on the floor on my side of the bed.
The back is just as interesting as the front.  I had really been happy with it until….

3 weeks of heat and humidity hit.  What was that smell?  I finally found that it was the rug.  It smelled like a combination of cat urine and cigarette smoke.  (no cat in my house and we don’t smoke). How did it not smell for months until now?  I took it outside to air out but had to bring it in because of rain.  It stayed it the living room for a couple of days until it was sunny again.  So out it went.  But now I noticed the the wood floor that the rug was on smelled like the rug.  I got the Bissell out to clean the floor.  I doused the rug in Fabreze.  I washed the rug with Dawn.  I let it dry in the sun.  I cleaned it with the Bissell.  I used the pressure washer on it.  I used Fabreze rug powder.  I let it dry in the sun again.  I vacuumed the powder off.  It still stunk, but not as bad so at least I can now roll it up and have it in the laundry room until I decide what to do with it.
It reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where someone with body odor gets in Jerry’s car and he ends up having to abandon it, then a homeless person didn’t even want it.
I thought about donating the rug, but I don’t really want to pass that smell off to anyone else.  At least I only prided $10 for it.

Fire Pit Fun

Mitchell got me a very nice fire pit for Christmas a couple of years ago.  I have enjoyed how it looks on the patio, but haven’t had a good opportunity to use it.  I have been keeping the makings for s’more on hand just in case the situation presented itself.  Today was the day.
It was a little cool and drizzly, but I had some dry wood and it was no problem to start a fire.  Ann, Carol, and Matt came over and so did Virginia, Mike, Sadie and Allie.  Sadie was the star of the show, and Allie was mesmerized by the flames.
I think everyone enjoyed the s’mores.  Mike said his favorite was the one made with a Reese’s cup.  Maybe I will try that next time but I enjoyed the regular kind tonight.  Anyone else was to come fire pit?

Pencils and Bottles

I have been eyeing a type of bottle tree on Etsy.  It was for beer bottles.  And someone driving on our dirt road had started throwing out blue, Bud light platinum bottles.  So it thought I was set.  Only they stopped at four and I needed closer to 40.  I regrouped, and decided to go with the wine bottles that I already had.
The next problem was I needed dowels which I didn’t want to have to buy.  Inspiration hit, and I went with pencils.
37 to be exact.
And 37 bottles.
Then a couple of laps around the yard to decide on a spot.
I think I like it.
Emily is supposed to be telling me when I get too many yard ornaments.  I hope this doesn’t push me over the edge.

Family

We had a wonderful family get together today.  We celebrated several birthdays and an anniversary.

The original 4 Rs.
The original “children” and Mama.
The expanded 4Rs.  I picked this one just to prove Sadie is not always the angel that I portray her to be.  She can pitch a fit when she wants to.
And everyone together for the first time.
Just had to have a picture of Sadie redeeming herself from the fit pitching.  She loves playing with Virginia’s old dollhouse.
And a very cute picture of Ann and son Matt.

Garden Helper

I had some good help in the garden today.  Sadie loves to help.  She even decided to try a tomato.

She ended up eating about  5.
Gardening is a perfect job for a girl that likes to carry a bucket.
We did have a little trouble with colors.  I kept telling her, just the red ones, but several green ones did find their way into the bucket too.

Triplex Work

With all of the rain we have been having, Joe has been having to mow at the triplex every week.
I went with him today to do a little work on unit B.  Unit A’s tenants moved out and B moved to A, so B is empty.  I was having Mike replace to carpet and sheet vinyl with luxury vinyl plank.  I had a new renter lined up.  On the day Mike said he was done, the new renter said, out of the blue, they found a house.  So now I am back to having to look for another renter.  What a pain.
But I think the floors ended up looking nice.

Hopefully, this will be a better option than just continually  replacing carpet.

Cucumbers

When you miss a day of picking cucumbers because it rained an inch…..
I can only eat about 2 a day.  Looks like we will be looking for some cucumber lovers.
