Snow Totals

Well, it finally snowed.  It started about 2:00 pm yesterday and it's still snowing this morning.  My boss spent the night at the office and said I didn't need to try to come in today.  Yay, snow day!

 My VT boots were tall enough but a little too cold since they aren't insulated.

 And we have 9 inches.  Not earth shattering but plenty for snow cream later.

We had to push Emma out this morning.  I think she is getting a little spoiled.  A whole free day, what to do, what to do...

Solo Cow Checking

J has been busy with the winter feeding and hasn't had time to ride so I have been keeping Brother tuned up for him.  I have an ulterior motive of course.  I think Brother is turning into a super western pleasure horse.  It had been at least a week since I rode him last and when I asked him to pick up the trot it was so slow and smooth not even any reaction of his head coming up.  I have to keep reminding myself that he won't be 3 until the end of April.   I told E, who was watching while I was riding in the barn, that I have been working all of my life to get horses to slow down, and now I have 3 that go slow naturally.  

 So after a good session in the barn, we took to the great outdoors since it was above freezing and the wind wasn't blowing.

 Brother did great around the cattle.

When I told J was a good ride we had, he said we could check the cattle twice a day when they start calving which would take at least 3 hours a day.  I said, "we'll see."

Farm Use Tags

In Virginia if you have a vehicle for the farm, it doesn't have to be licensed or inspected like regular cars.  All's you need is a farm use tag.  J has refused to spend $4.00 on an official one so he turned the old license plate over and painted Farm Use on it.  Well, that was a few years ago and the paint has since pealed off.  

 So this is what the back of the truck looked like when a police officer pulled him over Thursday while he was driving between farms.  The officer asked J, "Is this a farm vehicle?"  Apparently, J was able to withhold any sarcastic comments because he didn't get a ticket, just a request to make a clear tag.

That was my project yesterday.  Does it look like a Farm Use vehicle now?  Hope the permanent marker holds up to the elements.  If not I know what J is getting for Christmas.

The Outback's Bath Out Back

With a break in the weather J was finally able to rinse all of the salt off of our car.  This was it's first bath since we got it in August.  

 With the nice flat spot out from the barn and the 100 foot hose, it makes the perfect place to wash things off.

With this background there has to be an ad for Outbacks here somewhere.
