We had another group of cows that needed to be worked before J can turn the bull in with them. But the forecast was for rain for the next week. We decided to just suck it up and do it yesterday by ourselves.
We changed things up a bit and worked the calves first. It was easier to sort the cows out of the pen instead of trying to put them into the pen without the calves.
There was still some protests, but at least the cows were still over in the lot and not hanging around the front of the headgate waiting for their calf.
J brought the calves down the chute one at a time. I did the catching and vaccinating.
Then J walked around and did the ear tags.
This poor little one had gotten in an unfortunate position.
Notice a problem with this group. I missed one with the head gate. We had to round it back up when we had finished with the calves for a second trip down the chute.
After the cows got their vaccine, they went on off with their calves, much less trouble. Glad we switched things up a little.
By the time we got to the last of the cows, the lot was a muddy mess and we were soaked to the skin. Another job down. Then for those that need a dose of cuteness......
The puppy is still iffy on working out or not. It will stay around the barn with the bottle goats, but doesn't seem to care about the other dogs or other goats. It does have a loud bark though, so maybe it will scare some things off.

The puppy is very cute.
Good photo of the bawling mother cow.
Nice job in finding an improved process - smart to try new ways. Looks like a very wet and muddy mess.
