As I have mentioned before, Joe is very good at keeping a close eye on the cattle. He only occasionally has something for me to preg check. I really appreciate this for many reasons.
Anyway, there were two cows he was thinking about culling. He already had them sorted out, so we just had to run them into the barn lot.
Then it was my turn. This one was open, so cull list. The other one he had seen in heat 3 times while the bull was in with the cows, but hadn’t seen her in since. She was bred but will calve late. He decided to keep her.
While we were there, Joe also sorted out the cows that we had kept their calves as replacements to separate them and make sure they were weaned before the cows calve again.
Joe is definitely a cow whisperer.
It might not look like much, but sorting a few cows out of the herd at the gate is most certainly a talent.
