The goats have been getting restless penned up in one field for over a month.
We could only identify 6 left to kid so we decided to work them all and get them turned out to the rest of the farm. It starts to look like a lot of goats when they have to start crowding together.
I started out catching the kids and J banded the billies while I held them. When that was done, J started catching the nannies and I dewormed them.
We decided to try something new. J had been wanting to do this for several years but we just couldn't get it to work. This time, instead of trying to crowd the whole lot in, we would sort out about 15 and crowd them into the cattle chute. This made it infinitely easier for J to catch them one at a time.
We would then send that group out to the lot and get about 15 more until we were done.
This also allowed us to be able to sort out the 6 left to kid so we could try to keep them up longer. That's not working so well. I only had 5 left in the lot when I checked this evening. One had already gotten with the other goats. Hopefully, if she kids the dogs will be there to protect things.
