Clean And Dirty

Choosing a birthing location is key to success.  I don't know why animals have such a difficult time with this decision.
Striper made a good choice and has a nice set of clean twins.
No name brown/white goat made a good choice too and has a clean single.
J's cow made a very bad choice and her and her calf are covered in mud.  J found her upside down in a swamp with the calf out behind her.   I was at work, so J had to get a neighbor to help drag her out of the mud with the tractor.  She could stand and J was able to walk her to the barn.  He went back with the 4 wheeler and cart to get the calf.  He is a whopper. But he can't get up on his own yet.  J tube fed him twice today and he stood some tonight once we helped him get up.  We usually have pretty moderate to small calves.  This one looks 2 weeks old in comparison.

Poor cow! That must have been quite a struggle for her. Glad J found them in time and got them to safety. Never a dull moment in calving season.

Agreed our animals don't always make the best decisions. Sometimes I think they do things on purpose and others are just challenged in the common sense department.

Thankfully J was able to save them both. That is a big looking calf.
